Museums and Culture

Art & culture for all the enthusiasts.

Don’t miss out the “Museum of the Regole d’Ampezzo” (open all winter) at “Ciasa de ra Regoles” and near the convention centre Alexander Girardi Hall.

For an open-air cultural experience, you should visit the Museums of the Great War, consisting of the four museums of Lagazuoi, 5-Torri, Sasso di Stria and the Museo del Forte Tre Sassi. The museums, which cover a radius of 5 km, offer one of the most exciting and moving itineraries in the Dolomites. There are several routes from which you can enter, some long and challenging, others shorter and easier.

Inside the Planetarium, you can admire any part of the sky, the movements of the sun, the moon and the planets, with the aid of projectors, models and short films.
Star-gazing at the Astronomical Observatory of Col Drusciè, is another attraction you can’t miss.

Cortina can boast 4 museums and 14 art and antiques galleries.

  • The Museum of Modern art “Mario Rimoldi” is perhaps one of the most important in Italy. This remarkable gallery exhibits its collection of more than 400 important works on a rotational basis.

  • The Paleontological Museum “Rinaldo Zardini” preserves the richest collection of fossils from the geological era of between 230 and 220 million years ago, when a tropical sea covered the present Dolomite area. It tells its story throught algae, corals, sponges and shells of marine animals left behind in the rocks of mountains.
